WHY LACTATION CONSULTING IS IMPORTANT
A lactation consultant is like your own personal guru in all things breastfeeding. Although moms prepare ahead of time for the challenge, it is impossible to be completely prepared for everything motherhood throws at you and it is okay to ask for help. Breastfeeding doesn’t always go as planned and there are often obstacles on the way that most mothers are not prepared for. The simple fact is every baby is different and every mother is different; so that means every breastfeeding situation is different. Any mother can benefit from lactation consulting whether you are a brand new mom, have children and had trouble breastfeeding in the past, or you just want to freshen up your breastfeeding information. The best part about it is The Healthy Baby Project provides you this information and assistance in the comfort of your own home.
When deciding to seek lactation consulting it is important to find someone who is qualified and certified as an IBCLC. An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant® (IBCLC®) is a healthcare professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. An IBCLC is certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE®) which is independently accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. An IBCLC is required to complete 90 hours of breastfeeding specific education, numerous healthcare prerequisite and 1000 hours or direct breastfeeding patient care in order to sit for the IBCLE exam.
